Paraíba is a state in Brazil, located in the Brazilian Northeast, bordered by Rio Grande do Norte to the north, Ceará to the west, Pernambuco to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. It is the third most densely populated state of the Northeast, with João Pessoa as its coastal capital and Campina Grande as a major inland city. The state is known for its cultural heritage, amenable climate, and geographical features ranging from seaside beaches to the Borborema Plateau, and it is named after the Paraíba river.

Lore & Background
Before European arrival, the territory was home to indigenous tribes, including the Potiguara along the Paraíba do Norte river and the Kiriri and Ariús groups further west. Colonization began after 1534, with most of Paraíba becoming part of the Captaincy of Itamaracá.
